I seem to recall someone having a timing chain problem that started with a similar noise. If you pull the headcover, you should be able to see if there is any slack in the chain or if it looks gorked up.
You should be able to pull the headcover off with the engine still in the frame. Just remove the brace that goes to the top of the frame, and remove the headcover like when you put it together.
I'd check for wear on the chain and maybe see if that metal mesh filter that is jammed up in the head has slipped down- it looked to me that there was nothing holding it in place.....
But I'd recheck all your valve tappets first, and I'd also check the decompression solenoid (not that I can think of why it would cause tapping, but it's right up there in the head, so why not....)
